Saplings from 20 countries were planted at a park by the New Delhi Municipal Council on Saturday as part of its ongoing plantation drive.
The Commonwealth Games Park near Sarojini Nagar already has plants from 15 different countries, said NDMC chairperson Naresh Kumar. On Saturday, the park got plants from Bangladesh, Argentina, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Thailand, the United States, Brazil, Australia, Belize, Chile, Cuba, Indonesia, Laos, Macedonia, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, Vietnam, India, Nepal and Myanmar.
The plantation drive was launched in July 25, with 25,000 saplings being planted in the first phase. Mr. Kumar said 15,000 saplings were planted on Saturday, with launched the second phase of the drive.
By the end of the monsoon, the NDMC is aiming to plant 50,000 saplings. Apart from parks, the NDMC planted saplings at Shanti Path, Kushak Road, Safdarjung Road, Lodhi Garden, Khan Market, Pandara Road, Nehru Park, Central Park, Gole Market, Bengali Market, Laxmibai Nagar, Moti Bagh, Talkatora Garden, Sanjay Jheel etc.
