Must combat graft, red-tapism in real-estate: L-G

July 10, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - New Delhi:

Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Friday stressed the need to combat red-tapism and corruption in the real-estate industry and said that the government was committed to work with a “great deal of integrity and honesty”.

Speaking at the inauguration of the PHD Chamber's conference on Model Building By-laws, 2016. the L-G said that any difficulties in passing (building) plans has to be dealt with by “fighting red-tapism at all levels by the stakeholders”.

“The Centre is committed to work with a great deal of integrity and honesty. In the current Prime Minister, we have a man who, except for commitment to the country, has no other interest,” Mr. Jung said.

The L-G, however, claimed that he had not come across any “dishonesty” in the three years of his tenure as L-G, which he completed on Thursday.

Terming the difficulties faced by people in buying homes “unfortunate”, the L-G said a share of the blame also lay on developers and planners and urged them to be “sensitive” to the buyers’ problems.
