As per a letter received by municipal officials last week, mobster Dawood Ibrahim apparently takes interest in advertisements put up in South Delhi.
South Delhi Municipal Corporation officials, including Standing Committee Chairman Satish Upadhyay and Leader of the Opposition Farhad Suri, were sent letters that were posted from the Sarojini Nagar post office threatening the civic body with dire consequences if action was taken against a particular advertiser. The letter claimed to be from the “D-Company-Dubai”, but Corporation officials suspect it to be foul play.
Ajay Gupta of Number One Advertising owes the Corporation Rs. 3.58 crore for operating five wall wrap sites, but in the five years he had the contract, which ended in December 2013, no single payment was made.
If the letter wasn’t strange enough, the saga of Number One Advertising has led to bad blood within the Corporation, with a Commercial Officer writing to a senior official that his life was in danger.
In the complaint, the officer claimed that a senior elected official threatened him with abusive language for removing the wall wraps put up by Number One Advertising.
The ad sites include some of the most lucrative and posh areas of South Delhi, like South Extension and Greater Kailash-1.
According to sources, the advertiser and the elected official are close associates. The official cited the same while attempting to stop the removal of Mr. Gupta’s wall wraps last week.
