A 24-year-old M.Tech student was gunned down and his friend injured following a minor scuffle over a trivial issue with a group of three at Shakarpur in East Delhi on Saturday.

According to the police, the incident took place when Shivam Mishra and his friend Sachin Dubey were returning after having dinner at their friend’s house. Near the Laxmi Nagar metro station, the duo got into a minor scuffle with a group of bike-borne men, who allegedly fired at them and sped away.

Both were taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where Shivam was declared brought dead while Sachin is under treatment.

“The reason behind the attack is not yet clear. Prima facie it appears that a sudden provocation prompted the attack,” the police said.

The police collected footage from the CCTV cameras installed outside the metro station and found out the registration number of the motorcycle.

“We are probing the matter and trying to identify the assailants. We have not been able to take the statement of the injured as he is still unfit for it,” added the police.
