While the monsoon comes as a relief to the city, it also brings along with it some unwanted visitors from the reptile family. And this time round it was a six-foot-long python, a surprise visitor at the Air Force Station at Tughlakabad early on Wednesday morning.
“A large python was spotted this morning by an Air Force official who immediately called Wildlife SOS on their helpline (9871963535),’’ said Kartick Satyanarayan of Wildlife SOS.
A wildlife rescue team from Wildlife SOS rushed to the location and managed to restrain the large snake. “Currently the snake is under observation and will be released in its natural habitat shortly,” he added.
“The snake was understandably terrified of the crowd of onlookers and was attempting to hide under a table,” said Mr. Satyanarayan.
Stating that snakes are misunderstood and there is a lot of ignorance and myths surrounding snakes Mr. Satyanarayan noted that pythons are non-venomous and are no danger to human beings. They are an endangered species and protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
