To assess the preparedness of various agencies involved in tackling terror attacks, security drills will be conducted at four Delhi Metro stations in the city on Friday.

According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation officials, the exercises will be conducted at metro stations in Rajouri Garden, Mandi House, Netaji Subhas Place and Dilshad Garden at 11.30 a.m.

“This entire exercise is likely to cause disruption of metro services and inconvenience to passengers for about 15-20 minutes. Thereafter normalcy will be restored,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

The mock drills will be supervised by officials from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority and will depict different situations like a bomb explosion, explosives laden truck hitting a metro pillar, powerful bomb blast near ticket counter and explosion triggered by a human bomb.

“The aim of this drill is to check the preparedness of the DMRC staff and the security agencies in the wake of an unforeseen disaster like a terrorist attack. It will also test the coordination between the Delhi Metro staff, the police and the fire brigade in a disaster scenario,” the spokesperson said.

More than 15 mock drills have been conducted at various metro stations in the past five years in which scenarios such as terror attacks, evacuation of trains and stations, derailment and fire were created.
