An 18-year-old German girl who had gone missing under mysterious circumstances from South East Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park a couple of days ago, was found dead in neighbouring Faridabad here on Friday.
The victim Judith Aino Enhas, said the Delhi Police, died after being run over by a train. The police suspect that Enhas jumped in front of a speeding train the same day that she had gone missing.
“Based on the complaint received about her disappearance, we registered a case of abduction. Late on Thursday night we were informed about her death from our counterparts in Haryana,” said a senior police officer.
The officer added that a train driver told the Haryana Police that he saw Enhas walking towards the railway tracks. He also ruled out any foul play as the train driver’s statement corroborates the suicide theory.
Enhas who hailed from Dusseldorf had come to India a few months ago and was volunteering with NGO Pravah where she was placed through a German organisation Misereor this August. In the Capital she was staying with fellow Germans Sven Przywarra and Malte Post in a rented house in CR Park. Her roommates last saw her alive at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday when they left house for Rajghat to attend Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. However, when they returned around 5 p.m., they did not find Enhas at home.
Both her roommates tried calling her but found that her phone was switched off and reported the matter to the police. Upon analysing the call records, the investigators found that her last known location was in Faridabad.
A Delhi Police team then left for Faridabad and came to know about Enhas’ death there. Her body was identified by her colleagues. The police are now awaiting the post-mortem report.
