A body of a seven-year-old was found inside a cooler kept at a temple in North-East Delhi’s Gokalpuri under mysterious circumstances on Monday morning. The boy had gone missing two days ago, said the police.
Around 11 a.m., the police control room got a call informing them about a minor’s body lying inside a cooler. The police found that the victim Sahil lived near the temple where his body was found. During investigations, the police learnt that the boy had gone missing on Saturday.
Sahil’s mother Sana had initially called his father Javed, from whom she was separated four years ago. She asked him if he had taken their son with him. Javed, who lives in Loni, answered in the negative and came to Gokalpuri to look for the boy. After they failed to find him, they approached the police and a case of kidnapping was registered on Saturday evening.
On Monday morning, a function was held at a temple near the victim’s house and some children who were there to attend it climbed on the first floor of the temple.
“As the children complained of foul smell, they alerted the elders. It was found that the body of a minor boy was kept in a cooler. The matter was subsequently reported to the police,” said a source adding that prima facie it appeared to be a case of death by strangulation.
It is learnt that one person has been detained in connection with the case but the motive behind the murder is not clear yet.
