The rebel Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kapil Mishra is out to make things difficult for the party yet again. The former Water Minister has pitched the mother of slain AAP Seemapuri candidate Santosh Koli against the party’s choices for the Rajya Sabha.

Mr. Mishra on Thursday had announced that Ms. Koli’s mother Kalavati Devi deserves to be AAP’s choice because her daughter gave her life for the party, and even after that Ms. Devi has been working towards strengthening the AAP’s presence in the Seemapuri constituency.

He said that Ms. Devi was more deserving compared to the AAP’s present choice, Delhi-based businessman Sushil Gupta. Ms. Devi on Friday reached CM and AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to discuss her nomination with a few supporters. However, she was not allowed to enter as Mr. Kejriwal was not at home.

“I want to voice the ideology of the party and become a nominee,” Ms. Devi said.

Sitting outside the gate, Ms. Devi called all the AAP MLAs and requested them to support her nomination, for the sacrifice that her daughter had made.

Ms. Koli was critically injured after being hit by a car in Ghaziabad and succumbed to injuries in a hospital in 2013.
