Mishra launches ‘no jail, no mooch’ countdown

AAP starts campaign against BJP leader Vijender Gupta

July 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Delhi Jal Board (DJB) chairperson Kapil Mishra on Monday launched a website that is counting down to August 13 — the date by when either former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is arrested in the tanker scam case or Leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta shaves off his moustache, as per a challenge issued by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Speaking at a session of the Delhi Assembly last month, the CM had challenged Mr. Gupta to have Ms. Dikshit arrested within two months of the tanker case being referred to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), which Mr. Kejriwal said worked under the BJP at the Centre. Failing that, Mr. Kejriwal had said that Mr. Gupta would have to shave his moustache, as a mark of defeat.

Launching the “no jail, no mooch [moustache]” countdown, Mr. Mishra said that the LoP and the BJP had been protesting against the AAP government over the delay in sending the report on the tanker scam to the ACB.

After the DJB chairperson referred the case to the Lieutenant-Governor on June 13, it was further sent to the ACB for investigation.

“We sent the report on June 13. The BJP has remained mum on the charges against Ms. Dikshit. They haven’t asked for her arrest. The report is with the ACB, with them [BJP]. We have launched this countdown so everyone can see what Mr. Gupta and the BJP do in the case,” said Mr. Mishra.

‘AAP creating drama’

The site, nojailnomooch.com , has been set up by volunteers at no cost to the DJB. “It is not a government site,” said Mr. Mishra.

Meanwhile, Mr. Gupta dismissed the website as an attempt to “create drama” by Mr. Mishra and the AAP government.

The BJP leader said that he had “never made such a ridiculous claim”, referring to the CM’s challenge.

He added that Mr. Kejriwal was trying to make a “joke” of the Rs. 400 crore scam..
