A 16-year-old student was stabbed to death by unidentified men on Wednesday evening while on the way back from school in north-east Delhi’s Usmanpur.

The police claim to have identified some of the assailants, who allegedly studied in the same school as the victim.

Sultan, a Class XI student at a government school, was returning home when he was waylaid by the accused, the police said.

“His family told us that he left school around 5.30 p.m. and was stopped right outside by the accused. He and the others got into an argument, following which Sultan was stabbed,” a senior police officer said.

A few locals recognised Sultan and informed his family. Sultan was taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

The police are scanning CCTV footage near the crime spot, and questioning his friends and family members to determine the motive behind the murder.
