Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung has decided that the 50-acre Millennium Bus Depot on the Yamuna bed will be relocated as three bus depots at Millennium Park, Sarai Kale Khan ISBT and Rohini.
A Delhi High Court Bench of Justice Sudershan Kumar Misra was informed on Friday that 10 acres will be allotted at Millennium Park, 20 acres at Sarai Kale Khan ISBT and 20 acres at Rohini Phase IV to accommodate the depot.
The court was informed about the various decisions taken by the L-G and that the committee constituted for development of DTC bus depots for relocation of the Millennium Bus Depot will be wound up with immediate effect.
“The DDA, with prior approval of the Land and Development Office, Ministry of Urban Development, will allot 20 acres in Millennium Park to the DTC,” the L-G told the Bench, which asked the DDA to submit a progress report in four weeks.
The L-G’s Office also told the court that DTC will shift the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research, adjoining Sarai Kale Khan ISBT, to a vacant site at Narela, to be made available by the DDA.
The former Arvind Kejriwal Government had in January told the court that it will relocate the bus depot within nine months.
The court was hearing a petition by environmentalist Manoj Misra against the Delhi Government for failing to shift the depot from the river bed or align the land use as per the Master Plan despite an earlier High Court order.
The depot was built for a temporary period by the previous Sheila Dikshit Government at a cost of Rs.60 crore ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
