The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has energised the metro section between Nehru Place and Okhla on the Central Secretariat-Badarpur line in a record time. The first metro train is expected to start trial runs on this section from Thursday night.
The DMRC has carried out the energisation work in less than half the time. “The energisation of this 3-km-long section involved the erection of 225 electrical overhead masts (poles) which the DMRC erected in a record time of 15 days. This work would have required at least 45 days normally,” said a DMRC spokesperson.
The work was speeded up by DMRC by employing extra electrical gangs (manpower) and resources since the DMRC wants to commission this line by the end of this month to keep its target of opening this line before the Commonwealth Games.
“The time given for construction of this line was the shortest since only 41 months was given to the DMRC as this line was sanctioned in April 2007. The electrical power for this section will be drawn from the New Delhi sub-station of the DMRC while the Qutab Minar sub-station will act as a back-up,” the spokesperson said.
The first train to run on this section will have officers from the signalling and telecom track, permanent way (civil) and electrical department travelling in the cab along with the train operator to monitor the first trial runs.
This is the second standard gauge corridor after the Inderlok-Mundka corridor of the DMRC. The line consists of 16 stations with Central Secretariat, Khan Market, Jawarharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium, Jangpura metro stations being underground and Lajpat Nagar, Moolchand, Kailash Colony, Nehru Place, Kalkaji Mandir, Govindpuri, Okhla, Jasola, Sarita Vihar, Mohan Estate, Tughlakabad and Badarpur stations being the elevated ones.
