Movement of trains slowed on the Yellow Line of Delhi Metro on Wednesday, leading to large crowds at many stations for a few hours.
Suspicious sound
The passengers travelling towards south Delhi and Gurugram and were the worst affected and the bunching together of trains led to both tracks remaining unavailable for operations for half an hour due to a stranded train at Civil Lines.
Since it happened during the peak hours, a lot of trains were bunched and the subsequent movement of trains had to be slowed down. A Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson said that at the Civil Lines metro station, the driver heard a suspicious sound while the train was moving towards Huda City Centre around 10 a.m. He immediately halted and had the train checked, but nothing was found.
According to the DMRC, the train remained at the station for around 15 minutes while the CISF said it halted for just over half an hour.
Queues outside stations
Passengers had to bear the brunt of the situation, especially at all interchange stations such as Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate and Central Secretariat where a lot of them were stranded and the queues reached all the way outside the stations.
Kaushambi resident Karan said he was taking his father to AIIMS around 9.45 a.m. “We de-boarded the Blue line Metro train at Rajiv Chowk to take a train going towards Huda City Center. The entire platform was packed with passengers waiting for trains but services on the route were slow. We had to wait for over 10 minutes before the first train arrived... our journey to AIIMS was delayed because the train stopped at some of the stations longer than usual,” he said.
