The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has started cracking down on commuters who misuse tokens.
According to DMRC officials, there has been a surge in complaints about commuters using the same token for a journey in different directions. “Some passengers have been caught travelling in a direction to which they were not entitled. For example, a passenger who purchases a token for Vishwavidyalaya but boards the train going towards Central Secretariat and then comes back in the same train to go to Vishwavidyalaya. They do this just to occupy empty seats at terminal stations. DMRC has launched a special campaign to deter such instances and provide hassle-free services to genuine commuters,” said a spokesperson.
Six special checking squads of Customer Relation Assistants, Junior Station Controllers and Assistant Station Controllers have been constituted.
“These teams have been given separate code names like Alpha, Beta, Gama, Delta, Pie and Toe and each team comprises 10 members. They are deputed at the terminal stations of all the lines especially Central Secretariat, Noida City Centre, Anand Vihar, Dilshad Garden and Rithala where the maximum number of such cases is reported,” said the spokesperson.
The teams are provided with portable ticket decoders which enable them to decode the passenger token and impose a fine of Rs.50 if found using the same token for the return journey as well.
