It was a pleasant start to the weekend for Delhiites as heavy rain lashed the Capital on Saturday. However, commuters faced a tough time as several parts of the city were waterlogged creating heavy jams.

Shweta Dikshit, who travelled from R.K. Puram in South Delhi to East Delhi’s Patparganj in the afternoon, said: “I had to face long jams on my way today. It was a weekend and I was expecting the traffic to be normal but due to waterlogging, things were completely messed up.”

The weatherman has predicted more rain in the coming week, with the temperature expected to remain below normal levels.

According to the MeT department, Safdarjung observatory recorded 43.4 mm of rainfall while 41.66 mm of rainfall was recorded at Palam observatory on Saturday. Humidity level was recorded at 100 per cent.

An official said that minimum temperature recorded was 24.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below average, and the maximum temperature was 29.1 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal.

Forecast

The weatherman has predicted rain with thunder shower on Sunday as well.

The temperature is expected to oscillate between 24 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius.

The MeT has predicted overcast conditions and rain in the week ahead. Monsoon had slowed down in the first week after entering the Capital, but with rain forecast in the week ahead, weather officials said that it is picking up pace again in the region.
