The mercury dropped to the season’s lowest at 4.2 degrees Celsius in the Capital on Saturday even as dense fog continued to disrupt rail and air traffic.
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature was recorded at 20.8 degree Celsius, a notch below the season’s average. The minimum temperature was 4.2 degree Celsius, three notches below the season’s average.
At the Safdarjung observatory, visibility was recorded at 300 metres at 8.30 a.m., while during the same period, it was 50 metres at Palam observatory.
Due to poor visibility, the Railways had to cancel 36 trains and reschedule 30 while 85 trains were running late. The Met department recorded 100% relative humidity at 8.30 a.m.
Clear skies today
“Skies will remain clear tomorrow (Sunday). There will be moderate fog in the morning. The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to settle at 5 degree Celsius and 20 degree Celsius,” an official of the department said.
Operations at the Delhi Airport were also affected due to the weather conditions. Airlines including SpiceJet, Indigo and Jet Airways informed that their services had been hit.
“Due to poor visibility in #fog at Delhi, Patna, Varanasi, Chandigarh and Lucknow some of our flights are affected,” Jet tweeted while Indigo posted: “Flights to and from Delhi, Jammu & Varanasi have been affected due to bad weather conditions.”
