Another day of drama continued outside the residence of Tehelka magazine founder Tarun Tejpal in Jangpura. A large number of media persons and curious onlookers who had gathered outside his house in the morning continued to be there till late in the evening.
Delhi Police officers were present outside the house on Saturday to manage the situation. This was unlike Friday when around 50-60 media persons had gathered outside Mr. Tejpal’s residence and the family members reportedly had to call to the police control room. A Delhi Police team had then visited his residence to ensure their safety. Barricades were also put up at the starting point of Link Road but that did not seem to help much as the locals had to call up the PCR at least twice to take control of the traffic situation. The foot-over bridge that connects Jangpura metro station to the residential area was jam-packed and residents had difficulty in crossing the place.
As speculations about Mr. Tejpal or his family members coming out of the house went on till late in the evening, nobody from the family came out to speak with the media. Later in the day, there were strong rumours about Mr. Tejpal going to meet his lawyer, which were later corroborated.
There were speculations about the Goa Police team reaching Mr. Tejpal’s residence for questioning. However, by evening, a Goa Police team went to the magazine’s Greater Kailash office to question the managing editor, Shoma Chaudhary, instead. As per the Goa Police team, Mr. Tejpal will be questioned on Sunday.
The scene outside his house at 12-Link Road resembled a local fair where vendors selling eatables gathered and locals kept idling away their time, walking around the place. Some of the neighbours of Mr. Tejpal who were ignorant about the reason for a huge media gathering curiously asked the reporters what the matter was and expressed shock and surprise on finding out the issue.
