The murder-cum-gangrape in Jewar on Thursday took place even as the 2016 Bulandshahr gang-rape case drags on.

The incident took place on July 29 last year when about half-a-dozen assailants targeted a family, robbed them and raped a woman and her minor daughter.

Reported last year

The case had made headlines and sparked national outrage. The Uttar Pradesh Police, meanwhile, had arrested five persons in this regard.

Following allegations that the victims would not get justice in the State, the Allahabad High Court had ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation to take over. The CBI has already filed a charge sheet against three of the accused, even as a probe is under way.
