The statutory notification for by-election to Ward No 12 (Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar) of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was issued by the State Election Commission here on Monday.

According to MCD spokesperson Deep Mathur, the seat belonged to councillor Surjeet Singh Thekedar and was lying vacant for the past one year since his death.

The filing of nominations for the post by various political parties in the BJP- ruled MCD is likely to gather steam in the coming few days. The last date for filing of nominations is March 29.

MCD Leader of House Subhash Arya said: “We have three to four names in mind but have not shortlisted anyone yet. We would be finalising the same at our meeting soon.”
