MBBS student commits suicide at AIIMS

A second year MBBS student at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, Himanshu Katara from Rajasthan, allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room on Tuesday.

In a statement, the hospital authorities said: “We got to know that a student in room No. 6 of hostel No.3 was not opening the door. Two undergraduate medical students were asked to peep through the window and they found the boy hanging from the ceiling. The hostel warden was immediately alerted and some hostel authorities rushed to the victim’s room.”

The AIIMS authorities claimed that the police was alerted and the boy was rushed to hospital. “The student was identified as Himanshu Katara. The warden of the hostel immediately informed his mother and the sister about the incident. Himanshu was shifted to AIIMS casualty at 1-30 p.m. In the casualty, he was examined and declared brought dead,” said a hospital official.
