A massive fire broke out in a forested area next to Coronation Park in North West Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area on Sunday morning. It took the firemen over 6 hours to douse the fire. Several acres of shrubland were destroyed.

The incident was reported around 9a.m. Fire officials say that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained but high temperature can be one of the reasons. As the affected area was non residential, they did not face much hassle while the operations were on.

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) had to rush 14 fire tenders to the spot and it took more than 6 hours to completely douse the fire.

“As it is an open space about 7 to 8 kilometres, the fire had spread to a large area. Fire must have broken out due to heat. A foul play cannot be ruled out at this stage. Efforts are being made to ascertain the reason. As it was spreading fast, 14 tenders were rushed in and the fire was controlled by 3-30 p.m. Cooling work took long as the area was large,” said a DFS official.

Earlier this month, a bushfire had been reported at the central stretch of the ridge forests in Buddha Garden.
