Nine tractors and an excavator of a construction firm in PMGSY road construction work were torched allegedly by Maoists in Kalahandi district of Odisha on Wednesday morning.

According to the police sources, the arson took place in Miangpadar village under Bhawanipatna Sadar police station limits. The construction firm was involved in laying the PMGSY road connecting Titijhula and Miangpadar.

As per localites, a group of armed Maoists along with some supporters reached the camp and forced the staff to leave the spot. Then they used fuel in the vehicles parked at the camp to torch nine tractors and an excavator belonging to the firm.

The ultras left behind a handwritten poster in Odia. Through the poster they opposed the proposal for mining in Baphlimali hill region alleging that the government machinery was working as stooge of corporate houses. The Naxalites threatened the construction firm to stop road construction work or face dire consequences.
