The former Bihar Chief Minister, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and workers of his Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) observed a daylong fast at Gandhi Maidan here on Monday to protest the Nitish Kumar government’s annulment of the 33 decisions taken by his Ministry.

Along with members, who wore Gandhi caps with HAM inscribed on them, some rebel JD(U) leaders, including former Rajya Sabha member Shivanand Tiwari, and Sadhu Yadav, the estranged brother in-law of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, took part in the protest. Talking to journalists, Mr. Manjhi said the decisions made at the last three Cabinet meetings of his government were all genuine and rooted in the welfare of the people, and their annulment was illegal. Mr. Shivanand Tiwari, seen as Mr. Manjhi’s political mentor, wondered how Mr. Nitish Kumar could set aside the Cabinet decisions before proving his majority in the Assembly.
