A 24-year-old pregnant woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her husband on Tuesday in Rohini’s Bawana, the police said on Wednesday. The accused is absconding and a hunt is on.

The deceased has been identified as Pooja, who got married to accused Sunil (28) four years ago. Sunil works at a factory in Bawana Industrial Area.

The police said that the couple used to fight regularly and that Sunil is a habitual drinker. “He used to get drunk every day and thrash his wife,” said a senior police officer.

On Tuesday night, Sunil allegedly came home drunk, after which the two had a fight that turned violent. He allegedly beat her, strangulated her and then stabbed her multiple times with a kitchen knife. The police said that locals did not intervene as a fight between them was nothing unusual. A family member later found Pooja bleeding profusely. A PCR call was made around 10.30 p.m. A case under IPC Section 302 (punishment for murder) has been registered.
