A 32-year-old preacher was thrashed by three youths on a motorcycle in an alleged case of road rage in outer Delhi’s Bawana on Wednesday.
No arrests have been made so far in connection with the incident.
Verbal alteration
The police control room received a distress call by Mohammed Irshad Rahmani, a resident of a JJ Colony in Bawana, at 5 p.m. Mr. Rahmani told a police team that he was walking in Pooth Khurd when three youths on a speeding motorcycle missed him by a whisker.
He got into a verbal alteration with the trio and allegedly asked them not to speed in the congested area.
The three men allegedly took offence to this and thrashed him before fleeing the spot. Mr. Rahmani immediately called the police and was taken to a hospital for medical examination, said police officer.
CCTV footage found
Stating that a probe is on, the police said they have recovered some CCTV footage and that the faces of the accused are visible.
“We have registered a case under Sections 323 [punishment for voluntarily causing hurt] and 341 [punishment for wrongful restraint] of Indian Penal Code at Bawana police station.
There was no issue of caste or religious remarks in the incident. The three youth have not been identified yet,” said Deputy Commissioner Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta.
