A 25-year-old was shot at in a quarrel, triggered by his pig straying into another man’s property, in South-West Delhi’s Sagarpur area on Saturday. The incident later led to a clash between members of two communities in the area.
Several vehicles were damaged in the conflict, later brought under control by the police.
Veeru, is a meat seller in the area, and was hit in the arm and is out of danger.
He had taken his pig out for grazing when it wandered into a property that belonged to his neighbour, Monu. When Monu asked Veeru to take the animal away, he allegedly received no response. This left him miffed and he came to Veeru’s shop at 8 p.m. with his wife Kaushalya and a few men.
“Veeru was pulled out of his shop and thrashed. When he tried to get away, Monu pulled out a pistol and shot at him. The bullet hit his arm,” said a senior officer.
The gunshot brought locals out of their homes even as the assailants fled. Veeru, meanwhile, was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital. The incident, however, snowballed into a confrontation between the two communities living there.
They pelted stones at each other and damaged vehicles, forcing senior police officers to handle the situation.
