A 30-year-old man from West Bengal was allegedly beaten up and robbed of ₹35,000 and a mobile phone by four men inside a cab in the small hours of Tuesday.
Victim Atit Limbu works in a bar in Sector 29 here and had boarded the cab at IFFCO Chowk to Delhi’s Ghitorni around 1 a.m. when the incident happened.
Took an U-turn
After travelling some distance on Mehrauli-Gurugram Road, the cab driver took a U-turn towards IFFCO Chowk, Mr. Limbu said.
“There were four men in the cab when I boarded it at IFFCO Chowk. I have been working at the bar for more than two years and taking a cab back home to Ghitorni from IFFCO Chowk daily but this has never happened to me before. I objected when the cab driver took a U-turn and asked him to stop. He accelerated the vehicle instead. When the cab reached M.G. Road metro station, I spotted a police control room van and shouted for help,” claimed the victim.
Mr. Limbu said he was sitting between two men in the back seat of the cab.
“The duo covered my mouth to stop me from raising an alarm and rolled up the windows. They were carrying knives and pliers. They tied my hands with my shoelaces and blindfolded me. They punched me and hit me on the face with pliers,” he alleged.
The robbers snatched his debit card and withdrew ₹35,000 from his account after forcing him to reveal the PIN. They also took away his mobile phone.
FIR registered
“They dropped me in Sector 15 an hour later. I took an autorickshaw to IFFCO Chowk. After reaching Ghitorni, I called the police control room,” said Mr. Limbu.
An FIR has been registered at Sector 29 police station under Section 379 B of the Indian Penal Code.
