: A 45-year-old woman was pushed to death from a balcony, allegedly by her estranged husband, in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri in the early hours of Sunday.

The accused, Dilip Kumar, lived with his wife, Lalita, until six months ago when he abandoned her following frequent quarrels . Lalita had then shifted with her daughter’s family in east Delhi’s Khichripur village.

On Saturday, Dilip called on his wife around 8 p.m., and requested that he be allowed to rest in her house for sometime. At the time, Lalita’s daughter and son-in-law were away, and she was with her two grandsons. “My grandmother refused to allow my grandfather into the house. That started a quarrel between them,” said one of the grandsons.

Victim ‘assaulted’

The fight between the couple continued for the next few hours during which Dilip allegedly assaulted Lalita.

Around midnight, Dilip allegedly dragged Lalita to the balcony on the second floor of the building. Her grandson tried to prevent the abuse, but to no avail.

“Amid the assault in the balcony, the accused suddenly grabbed Lalita by her hair and threw her off the balcony,” said a police officer.

The police were informed by neighbours, and the victim was rushed to a hospital. On Monday, Lalita succumbed to injuries. A case of murder has been registered at the Kalyanpuri police station. The accused is absconding.
