No racial angle

Assam resident Bijay Rai lived in a rented house at Hari Nagar Ashram. According to the police, the victim and two others got into a scuffle over leaving the common entrance to the building open till late at night. The police denied racial angle in the incident. “The police received a call at 12.40 a.m. The caller said a man had fallen from the balcony of his house. A team took Mr. Rai to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” said a police officer.

Preliminary probe revealed that the victim had an argument with Deepak and his friend Sujeet inside his house over leaving the common entrance to the stairs open till late at night. Mr. Deepak lives on the ground floor with his family

“Bloodstains in the house confirmed that a scuffle had taken place. We have registered a case of murder on the basis of evidence,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) Chinmoy Biswal said.

The police discovered that Mr. Deepak and Mr. Sujeet had fled after the incident. A team was constituted and they were nabbed from separate areas of Delhi on Sunday,” said the officer, adding that Deepak works with a company at the airport, while Sujeet is unemployed.

Police sources said Mr. Rai worked at a call centre in Noida and returned home at night due to late shifts. They added that he lived with his cousin and a friend, both of whom were at work when the incident happened. Mr. Rai has been staying in the locality for the past six years.
