A 34-year-old man and his minor daughter were killed and another girl injured when a two-storey building collapsed at Tahirpur in North-East Delhi on Wednesday evening. Several others were trapped under the debris and rescue operations were on till late at night.

The fire department received a call at 5.15 p.m. about a building collapse following which fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

According to officials, two residents of the building -- 34-year-old Veerpal and his nine-year-old daughter -- were pulled out from under the debris and rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared brought dead.

‘Built on drain’

Among others rescued was Veerpal’s daughter Rajkumari who is reported to be critical.

The police said there were shops on the ground floor while a five-member family was living on the first floor. The building was built over a 15-foot-deep drain and did not have a proper foundation.

Of late, de-silting of the drain had started due to which the shops in the building remained closed.

The owner of the building has been identified as Bijender and is absconding, said the police.
