A 28-year-old man suffering from depression allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of an approaching train at the Chhatarpur metro station on Wednesday afternoon.

Metro services on the Yellow Line, extending from Huda City Centre in Gurgaon to Jahangirpuri in North Delhi, were briefly hit by the incident.

According to the police, the man has been identified as Ajay Kashyap, a resident of Sangam Vihar. He died on the spot after being hit by the train entering the station from Gurgaon. The incident took place around 2-25 p.m.

“The man was married but got separated a couple of years ago. He was undergoing medication for depression,” a senior police officer said.

The officer added that Mr. Kashyap left behind a suicide note saying that he was depressed over his ailment.

“Train operations were stopped for around 10 minutes while bringing out the body and cleaning the tracks but there were no major disruptions,” a metro spokesman said.
