A middle-aged man today allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at a Metro

station near Seelampur in north-east Delhi.

The incident occurred at 5.19 p.m. at the metro station when the unidentified man, in his fifties, jumped onto the track when a train from Shastri Park was entering the platform, a metro spokesperson said.

The man died on the spot. The identity of the deceased is not ascertained yet.

The spokesman said the driver tried to apply brakes when he saw a man coming in front of the train but in vain. "Before he could apply the brakes, the man was run over," he said.

Following the incident, train services between Seelampur and Shastri Park were disrupted for 15 minutes on the line and resumed at around 5.45 a.m. The body was handed over to the police, the spokesperson said.
