A 52-year-old man allegedly tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a metro train at Janakpuri (East) station here on Friday morning. However, an alert train operator applied emergency brakes in the nick of time and saved the man.

According to a DMRC spokesperson, the man was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital where is undergoing treatment.

The incident occurred at 8-15 a.m. and train services remained suspended till 8-45 a.m.

“The train was moving towards Noida City Centre. Luckily, the train operator immediately applied the emergency brakes and the person was rescued by DMRC officials,” said the spokesperson, adding that “prima facie, the incident may have been a case of attempted suicide.”

However, the police are investigating it further.

An Advocate, P.K. Dhamija, who was travelling on the train said the incident resulted in commotion. When the train came to a sudden halt, the passengers were initially told that it was a technical glitch, he said.

“Passengers had to wait for about 30 minutes before train services were resumed,” Mr. Dhamija said.
