A 25-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly killing his mother’s 40-year-old live-in partner in south-east Delhi’s Badarpur in the early hours of Monday, the police said on Thursday.

They added that Vikash alias Jonny allegedly acted on a tantrik’s advice that ‘an outsider had performed black magic on his family’.

Sister’s death

Vikash, who was out on parole in a murder case in 2014, allegedly stabbed Rakesh alias Raju around 1 a.m. on Monday inside an autorickshaw. Vikash blamed the victim for his sister’s death, the police said.

“Rakesh was in an autorickshaw and Vikash stabbed him. Rakesh managed to flee somehow but the accused caught him and stabbed him repeatedly and then fled the spot,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal.

Policemen on patrol duty found Rakesh’s body, who was unidentified at that point, and a motorcycle lying nearby. The registration number revealed that the bike belonged to Rakesh, the police said.

“Rakesh’s sister was traced. She informed the police that he lived with Vikash’s family in Faridabad’s Surya Vihar. After visiting over 125 houses, we found Vikash’s house,” said Mr. Biswal, adding that Vikash was picked up for questioning.

During interrogation the police learnt that Vikash was jailed for allegedly murdering a man over monetary dispute in Badarpur in 2014.

“While in jail, he got to know that his mother met Rakesh at work and they were living together. He also learnt that Rakesh allegedly ill-treated his sister, who committed suicide on January 18. Vikash believed Rakesh was responsible for her death,” said Mr. Biswal.

Vikash allegedly used to visit a tantrik in Faridabad. The tantrik told him that “someone who was not a blood relative but lived with the family had performed black magic over his family and his sister”

The police said they had allegedly recovered the knife used to stab Rakesh and his bloodstained clothes.
