A 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly molesting two women, including a journalist at ITO metro station on Monday night. The accused allegedly told the police that he was drunk at the time of the incident.
According to the police, Akhilesh, who works as a helper at a tea stall near ITO, allegedly molested two women — a 25-year-old who works with a private firm and a 27-year-old newspaper journalist. He was arrested on Thursday, the police said.
15 minutes
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Pankaj Singh said the two women were molested in a span of 15 minutes.
“First, he touched the 25-year-old inappropriately. When she shouted, he fled. After 15 minutes, he molested the journalist. She fought back and tried to catch him, but he managed to flee,” he said.
The women approached the police, after which a case was registered. Five teams were formed to nab the culprit. “CCTV footage of the incident was obtained and his picture developed. The teams questioned over 5,000 people in the area. He was identified after two days and arrested,” said Mr. Singh, adding that Akhilesh resides in a jhuggi cluster near ITO.
