A 27-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing a 22-year-old near his residence in north-east Delhi’s New Usmanpur on Tuesday morning.
Ravi Solanki, an employee with a private firm, allegedly shot Rohit Pal around 8.30 a.m. after the victim asked him for money to consume alcohol.
“Rohit was consuming alcohol with his friend Harish at Nala Road when Mr. Solanki and his friend were crossing the area. Rohit and Mr. Harish stopped them, and asked for money to buy more alcohol,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-east) A. K. Singla. When Mr. Solanki resisted, Mr. Harish allegedly caught hold of him and Rohit started taking out money from his pocket.
Flees from spot
“That’s when he shot Rohit. He fell, following which the accused fired one more round. Mr. Solanki fled the spot with his friend. Mr. Harish too ran away,” he said.
Interrogation revealed that Mr. Solanki and Rohit knew each other for a few years and were into criminal activities till 2014. However, Mr. Solanki quit crime and started working with a private firm. “He started with a company which provided money to the needy. He stopped hanging out with Rohit, which was also the reason why he harboured ill feelings against him,” said the officer.
