A 24-year-old driver has been arrested for allegedly blackmailing women by creating fake Facebook profiles containing obscene pictures and remarks.

Akhilesh Kumar would befriend the victims by creating fake profiles using the names and photographs he randomly picked from other woman’s profiles. Vijay Singh, DCP (North-West), said Akhilesh had created over 100 fake profiles of women after befriending them online and tricking them into sharing their mobile numbers and photographs.

He was arrested on Tuesday following a complaint by a Maurya Enclave resident that her minor daughter was being blackmailed. “Akhilesh confessed to being involved in cyber crime for over a one year. A mobile phone containing contact numbers of around 100 women was recovered. He used different e-mail IDs and SIM cards to create Facebook profiles of victims,” the DCP said.
