Man held for disposing of wife’s body

A man has been detained for an attempt to secretly dispose of the body of his wife who allegedly committed suicide at their home in Rohini on Monday.

The husband, Kanhaiya, told the police that when he returned home around 11 pm on Sunday, he found the body of his wife, Neelam, 21, hanging from the ceiling fan.He took her body to the cremation ground without informing the police or any of her family members. A worker at the cremation ground saw some marks on Neelam’s neck, got suspicious and informed the police.

The funeral pyre had just been lit when the police reached the spot. The fire was doused and the body was sent for post-mortem, the police said.

According to the police, the couple had a love marriage two years ago and they eloped from their village in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh. They were living in a rented room in Narela. Kanhaiya worked as a driver at a factory and the couple had fights over his erratic working hours.
