Accused supplied illegal liquor from Haryana to Delhi for earning easy money

An aspiring wrestler who along with his associates had allegedly attacked a team of Excise Department and caused serious injuries to an official has been arrested, the police said on Tuesday.

Pawan Kumar was wanted in an attempt to murder case of a Delhi Excise Department official at Vijay Vihar near Bawana Chowk, the police said. He belongs to Sonipat in Haryana, they added.

He wanted to become a wrestler and had even participated in competitions at State level, the police said. However, soon started supplying illegal liquor from Haryana to Delhi for earning easy money. His other associates Govind, Naseem and Mannu were arrested following an investigation. “Acting on a tip-of, he was arrested from M2K Market in Rohini,” said Bhisham Singh, DCP (Crime). On the intervening night of October 3 and 4, 2017, staff of Delhi Excise Department got an information that bootleggers are active in Vijay Vihar. . After this, around eight people in two cars, armed with iron rods assaulted the officials.
