A 49-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging in a DDA park in south Delhi’s Nanakpura early on Wednesday morning.

The police said Shafiqul, a native of Bihar and resident of Masoodpur, was allegedly depressed and had talked about committing suicide in front of his family members. He was found hanging from a tree.

“He had used a plastic rope to hang himself,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Ishwar Singh.

‘He was depressed’

The police said Mr. Shafiqul was a painter in Delhi and allegedly depressed since the past few days.

“He lived in Delhi with some villagers. He was under mental stress and behaving strangely since the past few days,” said Mr. Singh.

He added, “No suicide note was found.”

Mr. Shafiqul’s wife told the police that he had talked about committing suicide in front of both her and other family members.

His body has been sent to AIIMS for post-mortem and inquest proceedings initiated under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
