A 32-year-old man died after he allegedly fell off a Metro feeder bus in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar on Sunday.

Ajay Gaurav was posted with the Air Force Station in Tughlakabad as a clerk and is survived by his wife and a three-year-old daughter.

His family alleged that he fell off the bus as the driver had suddenly applied brakes.

‘Door was open’

Ajay’s father-in-law Mannu Sao, who was with him when the incident happened, said: “Ajay was standing on the footboard to buy tickets, and had put his hand inside his pocket to take out money when the driver suddenly started the bus. The conductor did not even care to shut the door. If he would have or the driver had been a little slow, the accident could have been averted.”

Head injuries

Ajay fell on his head and suffered severe injuries. He was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) Romil Baaniya said they had registered a case of negligence against the driver.

Preliminary inquiry

No arrest, however, has been made.

Preliminary inquiry has revealed that the victim was standing on the footboard without holding on to anything.
