An elderly man has been booked by the Delhi Police for sexually assaulting and stalking his daughter-in-law and indulging in voyeurism for almost two years.

The FIR has been lodged on the complaint of the woman who said her father-in-law, a resident of West Delhi, started harassing her a few days after her marriage in March, 2011, and created terror in her mind that if she did not comply with his sexual demands, she would have to face dire consequences.

The complainant told the police that the accused used to initiate obscene conversation with her, forcing her to disclose matters privy to her husband and her.

The FIR says the woman was put through immense mental torture and then taken to a psychiatrist who prescribed some medicine which used to make her feel dizzy.

The man has been booked under Section 354 (sexual harassment), 354B (assault with intent to disrobe), 354C (voyeurism) and 354D (stalking) of the IPC which were added to the code after the December 16 gang-rape case.

In September, 2011, while the woman was half asleep after taking the medicines, she noticed her father-in-law making a video-recording of her standing at the gate of her bedroom. He also used to indulge in voyeuristic behaviour by peeping in her room every now and then and by clicking her pictures.

The accused even proposed to buy an apartment for the complainant and asked her to leave her husband and spend time with him.

The woman said she could not share this with her husband as he used to be busy in work and would come home drunk. She said she could earlier not muster the courage of lodging a complaint out of fear of the accused who is a lawyer but does not practice.

On one occasion, the man, the police said, tried to disrobe the complainant after which she left her matrimonial house.

The woman said an offence of stalking was also made out against the accused as he used to follow her on various occasions.
