A 33-year-old man who was enjoying the rain in Anand Parbat here on Sunday was allegedly beaten to death after he accidentally splashed two people passing by on a motorcycle.

Reacting swiftly, the police conducted raids at several hideouts and nabbed the accused within hours of the incident.

The victim, Radhe Shyam, lived with his family in Anand Parbat’s industrial area and worked at a local factory.

On Sunday night, when heavy showers lashed the city, Shyam walked out to the narrow road outside his house. He was enjoying the rain when Shashi Bhushan and Pankaj passed by on a Pulsar motorcycle.

DCP (Central District) Parmaditya said that while Bhushan is a labourer in the industrial area, Pankaj works in a garments factory in Karol Bagh.

“The two had consumed alcohol at the factory before they left for their homes in Anand Parbat,” said the DCP.

Drenched in the rain, the duo did not like it when Shyam accidentally happened to splash them. The duo got off their motorcycle and verbally abused Shyam.

They were infuriated further when Shyam asked them to mind their language. The duo then allegedly picked up a stick each and launched an assault on Shyam until he collapsed.

Locals, meanwhile, rushed out on hearing Shyam scream, forcing the assailants to flee.

Shyam was rushed to Lady Hardinge Hospital, where he died during treatment.

A case of murder has been registered in the matter.

“Secret information led to Bhushan’s arrest from Jakhira area. His accomplice Pankaj, too, was nabbed soon. We have recovered the weapon used,” said the DCP.
