The police here on Monday said they have arrested a narcotic smuggler and recovered 150 kg cannabis from his possession.
According to the police, they intercepted a car in Kasna area last night on a tip-off from the anti-extortion cell about the movement of some drug smugglers. During the vehicle’s checking, huge amount of cannabis was recovered from it, an officer said.
One of the man, identified as Gulfam, was arrested, while his accomplice managed to give police the slip, the officer added.
According to the police, the duo had planned to sell the drugs to college students in Greater Noida.
Colleges’ concern
Reacting to the development, Greater Noida Colleges Consortium spokesperson D.K. Garg raised concern and appealed to institutions in the area to be wary of such activities.
“Greater Noida has over 60 management, engineering and medical colleges, and altogether around two lakh students are studying in them. These students are the soft targets of narcotics smugglers. We have appealed to colleges to keep a watch on suspicious movement of persons and help the police in getting them arrested,” he said.
