A 35-year-old man has been arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the murder of his Lajpat Nagar-based paramour six months ago.

Geeta Vaid, who was a manager in an export company, had gone missing on July 4 from Lajpat Nagar and was found murdered four days later at Giridih in Jharkhand. The body was found wrapped in a saffron cloth in a forest with a lemon, chillies, black cloth and some bones near it.

The post-mortem report concluded that the victim was murdered and a case under Section 302 (murder) was registered at the Bengnabadh police station in this connection. Meanwhile, Ravti Parshad, a resident of Lajpat Nagar-II, also lodged a complaint at a local police station saying that his daughter had gone missing.

The Jharkhand Police identified the victim during the course of investigation and it was further revealed that Geeta was having an affair with Sanjay Surana, a resident of Lajpat Nagar-I, after she got separated from her husband. Sanjay worked in a garments factory in Lajpat Nagar.

A photograph of Sanjay was also found at the murder spot.

Further investigation revealed that Geeta had been pressurising Sanjay to marry her and even threatened to lodge a complaint against him if he did not marry her. It was also established that Geeta went to Ranchi by a train on July 4 along with Sanjay's domestic help Dalip.

Armed with these facts, the Jharkhand Police mounted raids at several possible hideouts of Sanjay in the second week of December last but he could not be traced.

The Jharkhand Police provided the copy of arrest warrant and First Information Report to Geeta's brother Rajinder who handed them over to the Vasant Kunj police as Sanjay's movements were traced in the area.

On January 7, the Vasant Kunj police laid a trap on Mahipalpur Road following a tip-off and arrested Sanjay while he was coming from Gurgaon in his Honda Civic car. The Jharkhand Police have been informed about his arrest.
