In yet another reshuffle of senior IPS officers in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress government on Wednesday transferred 12 senior cops in the State.
Two senior officers of Kolkata Police, including Deputy Commissioner of Detective Department II Nagendra Tripathi, who was seen slapping shopkeepers on the polling day, has been sent on compulsory waiting. Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Crime) Debasish Boral has also been sent on compulsory waiting.
Among the officers transferred, Gangeshwar Singh, Director of Civil Defence, has been given new posting of Additional Director General of Police, Intelligence Branch.
Adhir Sharma, who was holding the responsibility of Additional Director General of Tele Communication, will be Additional Director General of Railways.
Only seven days ago, even before the TMC government took oath, 16 IPS officers were transferred. Six Superintendents of District Police, removed by the Election Commission, were reinstated at the behest of the government.
Prior to this, Somen Mitra, who was appointed Kolkata Police Commissioner by the Election Commission, was removed and Rajiv Kumar reinstated after poll results were out.
Police attacked
In the State, at least two incidents were reported in which the police were attacked. While in Malda, a group of miscreants attacked police personnel leaving two of them injured, at Basirhat in North 24 Parganas violence broke out during victory procession of the CPI(M) candidate.
