Mamata invites parties for talks with Modi

: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday urged the Opposition to join her in the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a debt waiver for the State.

“I will be going with my MPs. If you, including the Leader of Opposition, joins us, we will be happy,” she said in the State Assembly.

This came a day after the Trinamool Congress chairperson announced on a social networking site that she had sought an appointment from the Prime Minister to discuss the debt situation of the State.

She was absent at the Niti Aayog meeting held earlier this month. Her decision to involve members of the Opposition is perceived as a face-saving attempt where she is not seen to have compromised her earlier political stand.

Leader of the Opposition in State Assembly Surjya Kanta Mishra said that the Opposition can accompany her once a proposal is passed in the State Assembly in this regard.
