Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly V. K. Malhotra has expressed concern over the Quality Council of India report, indicting seven of the eight large hospitals in the city for not measuring up to “acceptable standards.”
Prof. Malhotra lamented that the State Government has not been able to organise quality health and medical assistance for the large number of tourists, officials and athletes who will visit the city during the Commonwealth Games.
He called for establishment of a review panel so that the quality of services at these hospitals could be evaluated.
The QCI had rated the city hospitals on parameters such as hygiene and cleanliness, employee morale and service, security and waste disposal and found seven of the eight main hospitals lagging.
The BJP leader said the super-speciality hospitals built in Janakpuri and Tahirpur after spending crores have been reduced to being mere dispensaries.
He asked the Lieutenant-Governor to direct the Delhi Government to immediately take steps to enhance quality of medical services at all hospitals in the city particularly at the LNJP Hospital and GB Pant Hospital which are marked as nodal hospitals for medical support during the Commonwealth Games.
Prof. Malhotra said emphasis on hygiene, quality and condition of diagnostics and other medical equipment, security, waste disposal and overall behaviour of employees towards patients was required to improve the conditions at these hospitals.
He cautioned that Delhi’s image was at stake if shortcomings showed up in healthcare facilities during the Games and called for proper evaluation to ensure hospitals confirm to international standards.
