A male nurse working at the Guru Gobind Singh Hospital here has been jailed for a year by a Delhi court for molesting a woman while posing as a doctor.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ekta Gauba sentenced Brij Bihari Rathore to one year in jail and also asked him to pay a compensation of Rs.9,000 to the victim/ complainant besides a fine of Rs.1,000.

In the beginning of March 2008, the complainant had visited the casualty ward of the hospital with her mother. The complainant, a newly wed woman, was experiencing acute pain in the stomach.

At the hospital, Rathore examined the woman posing as a doctor. Then he asked the mother to fetch some water. While she was away, Rathore touched the victim indecently on the pretext of examining her. He tickled her and also passed her a slip with his name and number.

On the paper, Rathore had also written that he loves her and wants to be her friend.

He also managed to get her mobile number from the medical records and continued to phone her for the next two days and that is when the victim disclosed the matter to her family.

Her brother and brother-in-law went to the hospital and beat up Rathore. The family also got to know that Rathore was not a doctor. A complaint was lodged against him which led to his conviction.

The court denied any leniency to the convict who pleaded that he has a family comprising aged parents, wife and children to look after.
